  • "AZOVSTAL IRON & STEEL WORKS" was certified in accordance with the International Standard "Energy Management System ISO 50001:2011".

  • Carbon steel welded pipes of PJSC KHARTSYZSK PIPE PLANT and carbon steel plates of PJSC "AZOVSTAL IRON & STEEL WORKS" were certificated by PETROBRAS.

  • Series of certification and re-certification audits was successful. Compliance of the enterprise with the requirements outlined in API Q1, API 2H and API Spec of American Petroleum Institute (API) was confirmed. TÜV NORD CERT conducted re-certification audit of rolled plate production. Audits that confirmed right of the enterprise to produce rolled plates for shipbuilding under the rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NKK) (Japan), Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) and Shipping Register of Ukraine were conducted. 

  • Testing of trial lot of steel products with the nominal thickness up to 3300 mm in the thicknesses of less than 14 mm was successfully completed. Till the present, maximum width of Azovstal rolled products with the thickness of less than 14 mm does not exceed 3200 mm.

  • "AZOVSTAL IRON & STEEL WORKS" mastered production of new products for oil and gas industry. Production technology of slabs and rolled products (steel grade BM PSL2) according to API 5L with tightened requirements for mechanical properties was developed and mastered.

  • Up-to-date Slag Cut-off System (SIEMENS VAI, Austria) was put on stream on the second vessel at BOF Shop.

  • New data processing center was introduced within the framework of investment program implementation to improve reliability of information system operation. 

  • Pilot operation of equipment serviceability and maintainability control system in the module ТОРО SAP ERP was launched.

  • On the night of the 14th/15th March, two weeks earlier than stipulated date, employees of Plate Mill 3600 produced 58 millionth ton of rolled plates since the mill foundation.

    Up-to-date gas analysis complex "Granat" was put into operation at BOF Shop to control process parameters and monitor industrial emissions.

    Obsolete and depreciated Coke Battery No. 5 was decommissioned.

  • "AZOVSTAL IRON & STEEL WORKS" confirmed compliance with the International Standard OHSAS 18001:2007.

  • Surveillance audit for the right to produce transport metal by the enterprise – wide gauge rails, tie plates and joint bars – was successfully passed according to the requirements established by National System UkrSEPRO.

  • The enterprise mastered new steel grade 08ГБФ-У. The steel is resistant to hydrogen sulfide corrosion, has several features, which allow its using for manufacture of large diameter electric welded pipes for gas transportation.

  • The last obsolete Coke Batteries No. 6 and No. 7 were put out of operation within the framework of Mariupol Environment Protection and Enhancement Program for 2012-2020.

  • Sinter Plant of "AZOVSTAL IRON & STEEL WORKS" was mothballed.

  • The technology of rail (transportation) steel making in converters was mastered at Azovstal Iron & Steel Works.

  • On May 25 open-hearth furnaces of the Works were decommissioned.

  • Peak daily production of iron (15547 tons) was achieved at the Works by five furnaces. Stable daily production of steel at Basic Oxygen Furnace Shop reaches 55 heats.

July

  • The first scientific and technical conference among Metinvest-2011 Group Assets was held on the basis of Public Joint Stock Company  “Azovstal Iron and Steel Works”.

  • The first in Ukraine corrosion test laboratory was put in operation.

  • Mastering of the new equipment and implementation of the practices with such equipment was continued at BOF Shop for the steelmaking process and continuous casting of slabs (ladle-furnace, vacuum degasser, slab caster 6).

  • In March, first time in Ukraine, the shotcreting practice was applied at the time of major repair of blast furnace 2. The shotcreting practice that obtained wide application at the leading world facilities allows increase of blast furnace life between major repairs more than two times.

  • Manufacture of over 40 new steel grades was successfully implemented at Azovstal (including 26 BOF grades), 18 items of rolled products (10 items in plate Mill among them).

  • In March, as part of the complex program of BOF Shop revamping and modernization, major repair of converter 1 was completed including replacement of converter shell. The converter was upgraded with Quick-Tap system where drop-in thermocouples are used  for temperature measurements. In April major repair of BF3 was completed. At the time of major repair of BF3 a modern practice of refractory lining was applied that allows significant increase of metallurgical units' lifetime.

  • In December 2005 construction of the new continuous slab casting machine No.6 was started at BOF Shop. It was planned to apply the newest practices at that slab caster that had not been used in Ukraine before.

  • In April Azovstal branch of the gas pipeline connecting Azovstal with the city gas distribution station No.1 was opened. Construction of the gas pipeline ensured trouble-free natural gas supply to Azovstal Iron & Steel Works.

  • In 2002 a new process of combined aluminum steel deoxidation practice in steel ladles was introduced in BOF Shop (jointly developed by the Central Laboratory and BOF Shop). The new technology enhanced aluminum recovery rate in finished steel.

  • A unique record was set at BOF Shop. Converter 1 relined in November 2000 stood as many as 1659 heats. Converter life between major repairs was 75 days - no such results were ever obtained in Ukraine at converters working with continuous casting machines.

  • In 2001 manufacture of guard rails GT-140 was successfully implemented at the Rail Shop.

  • Blast Furnace 4 was started after major repair, 1st category, with BF volume increased to 2002 cubic meters and with modern bell-less top charging equipment. Significant environmental controls were commissioned together with the blast furnace.

  • In August 1983 Azovstal celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. During 50 years of operation Azovstal produced 145.5 mln t of pig iron, 118.2 mln t of steel, 96.4 mln t of rolled products. The highest blowing temperature in the USSR was achieved at the BF Shop of the Works, BF, OHF and BOF slag was fully recycled for the first time.

  • On the 20th of December steel making production of Azovstal was renewed with a new major complex – the first stage started at the Basic Oxygen Furnace Shop.   • On the 24th of October the restored Turbo Blower Plant started its operation. The Oxygen Station was put into operation – it served the production needs both Azovstal and other Donbass enterprises.

  • On the 7th of September almost all installations – blast and open-hearth furnaces, turbo blower units, also coke ovens of the Coke and by-Products Plant were blown up at the retreat of the German troops. There were no power supply and transportation capabilities at the Plant.

  • On June 22, 1941 at noon Azovstal received news about beginning of the war.

  • On October 7, 1941 open-hearth and blast furnaces were shutdown. In the morning on October 8, the last two railway cars with the employees left Azovstal.

  • On the 5th of April the first lot of hot sinter was brought to Azovstal port by steam vessel «Sudkom» from Kerch. Hot sinter was shipped by vessels for the first time in the world.
